How to Organize Your Photos article image

Organizing a large photo collection can feel overwhelming, but it does not have to happen all at once. A little progress each day goes a long way.

1. Gather everything in one place.
Check albums, closets, attics, drawers, framed photos, and storage bins so you can see the full collection.

2. Decide how you want the files organized.
Common options include by year, decade, family member, event, or location.

3. Make simple groups.
You do not need a perfect system. Start by making broad piles, then narrow them down only if you want to.

4. Label bags or boxes clearly.
Labeled Ziploc bags work well for photos, slides, and negatives. Use a permanent marker so it is easy for us to follow your organization.

5. Do not let perfection stop you.
If everything is mixed together, that is okay too. We can still digitize the collection and return organized digital files for you to sort later.
